Cappadocia is a big and beautiful town situated in the middle of Anatolia - Turkey. It is commonly called a 'city' although it is just a town of the city of Nevsehir but this huge town has a big population and also since it is a touristic point, every year many Turkish and foreign tourist are traveling to Cappadocia.
The original name of Cappadocia was Katpatuka meaning "The Town of Beautiful Horses". It is not very well known why it is called the town of beautiful horses but at least we can understand that the town has a very long history - since the times when the horses were the most important transportation.
People describe Cappadocia saying that it is different. The beauty of the city is unquestionable but the word "different" describes it better as it is unique and one of the most interesting places you can ever imagine.
The geographical formations of the city are worth seeing.
It is estimated that these geographical shapes are formed around sixty million years ago as a result of the volcanic activities, wind and rain.
The city looks like a cave city since even most of the modern constructions are built by carving them into the stones.
And also as a result of the old tribes living here, the wars and the conflictions between them, there are many historical remains to see such as the underground cities which are built for the purpose of using them as a shelter during a long time period to be able to survive when escaping from the enemy.
One of the most important activity that people do in Cappadocia is taking a walk in Ihlara Valley which has a very beautiful landscape to see and fresh air to take.
Actually Ihlara Valley is not exactly situated in the middle of Cappadocia but it is close and people traveling to Cappadocia, prefer visiting it as a part of their trip.
Another important activity is hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia which is generally operated around five in the morning when the weather is not very bad. It is an expensive activity but strongly recommended if you can afford it since it is an unforgettable memory.
When it comes to accommodation in Cappadocia area, it is interesting that even the chain hotels like Hilton, Swiss Hotel etc have more reasonable prices than luxury cave hotels.
Staying at cave hotels is very famous and also recommended once you are in Cappadocia. You will enjoy a new sleeping experience in a cave room.
Apart from all these mentioned above, there are many very old churches and other remains of Christianity in Cappadocia that are also worth seeing and listening.
Seeing the unique formations of Cappadocia is interesting but without guidance, the stone is just a stone afterall. But with a professional tourist guide, the stone is history.
